Olga Romanovna Ignateva talks about her replica of the coat

“The Kolyma Sacha have revered the deity of the eagle for centuries. The ancestors of our grandmother also came from the Kangalas family and were under the protection of the eagle. I am a member of the ‘Sitim’ group. We have been sewing together for ten years now. I saw this coat, which is kept in the American Museum, in a catalog. When I discovered this eagle coat there, I decided to recreate it. I also sewed a taҥalai pattern onto it using fur pieces. And so I sewed the eagle coat again exactly as I saw it in the catalog illustration.”

Recorded in Yakutsk, 2024.
